Safety: Platform for Guatemala's Economic Development

The present state of affairs in Guatemala makes it urgent to create a safety platform on which to build an economic development program for the nation. Most of the presidential candidates are willing to grant that this is the most important precondition for change, now that the elections are near. Guatemalans will go to the urns on November 12. See a summary of the most recent surveys of Voter's Preferences.

The need for safety in the social, economic and political activities throughout the country was made clear in the candidates' answers during our interviews to learn about their Government Plans and more specifically, about the economic and financial policies they would implement, and how these may affect business activities in Guatemala.

After talking to 16 of the 19 political leaders and asking them the same questions, their answers seem to have more commonalities than expected, in the way each of them would solve problems from their office at the National Palace.

All of the candidates agree with the need to be part of a global economy, in a competitive manner, playing their best card for International trade and investment.

A comparative chart shows the candidate's points of view and their parties' offers. Now, the candidates have a great menu to satisfy all needs and tastes of the Guatemalan population.

In our original version (in Spanish) we provide a complete list of all participating parties and candidates, information about their achievements, detailed interviews describing their proposed policies, and an opportunity for you to decide who you would vote for.
