Westin - Camino Real Hotels in Guatemala: A Window to the World

Westin Camino Real Hotels, a company that is 100% Guatemalan onwed, has been offering first class lodging and tourist services since 1957. After a thorough renovation that cost over US$6 million, Westin-Camino Real is enjoying, more than ever, a leading position, according to Robert E. Stanfield, General Manager.

The Hotel offers first class services, especially in its "Premiere Floors", with electronic door locks, bar, remote control television, local and cable programming in each room. For guests and visitors there are two restaurants, Lobby Bar, Video Bar, discotheque, two heated pools, a gym, tennis courts, sauna, jacuzzi, banquet rooms for 10 to 1000 guests, and much more.

Four years ago, Westin inaugurated its vacation resort at the Camino Real Tikal, located in the Cahuí Hill, an ecological zone. The 72 waterfront bungalows overlook the Peten Itza Lake. Facilities for water sports are available, as are biking and hiking trails in an archaeological area.

In 1993, Guatemala received 28% of Central America's total nuber of visitors. It is the second most visisted country, just behind Costa Rica, after 20 years of tourism leadership in the region. Guatemala's tourist industry comprises 0.05 % of the world's tourism, an economic indicator that corresponds to the size of the economy and with export rates of 0.04% of the world's total. Tourism growth shows higher indicators than the world's average.
