The Human Resource, a Competitive Advantage

"Today's human resources manager is not one who hires and fires personnel. The new human resources manager is a leader in company decision making", states Colombian Ernesto Fajardo, president of the Personal and Industrial Relations Association of his country. Fajardo, along with Mexican Alfredo Bernádez Glez, Commercial Director at Lexikón for Mexico, Central America, and Ecuador, attended the Human Resources Convention organized by the Asociación de Gerentes de Guatemala.

During an interview, Fajardo and Bernádez talked about the new focus on how a company must treat its personnel.

Everything seems to propel Latin America towards change: the global economy and the new global order. Now, a country's strength is measured according to its technology and the qualifications of its human resources.

SEARCHING FOR MARKETS

While the great market powers flourish, in Latin America the best student, Chile, seem to be the only one capable of participating in this concert, although the rest of the countries still have to participate in this process.

EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT

Both experts agree that a raise must nowadays be justified. Today's employees must participate in profit distribution, which forces them to share the responsibility of increasing production.

According to Bernádez, the main cause of mortality today is lack of satisfaction for what is done. This is the reason why companies have the obligation to enable their employees to enjoy the dignity their job offers them, as human beings.

AGENT OF CHANGE

Finally, they state that development of human resources and acquisition of new technology cannot be separated, for they walk together, like marketing and product sales in a market that trashes inefficiency.
