Not the supposed aid Guatemala will receive when the peace is signed, nor the establishment of new tariffs or commercial deals, represent an integral solution to development. "It is not forbidden to be a wealthy country but, to be one, the prevalent economic system must be one that rewards competition and excellence, and does not grant privileges to any sector of society", states María del Carmen Aceña in the Opinion section.
