by Mayra VargasPresently, they are still exporting their products with the backing of this laboratory, although Lavet is responsible for the whole production process and they only import embryos free of pathogens or sicknesses, and also containers and lids.
Among the best
The modest beginnings of this guatemalan laboratory have nothing to do with their present high standards. For example, they cover 80% of the beef market, and the vaccines produced are exported to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Dominican Republic and, soon, Mexico.
Dina Dubón, Production Manager assures us that everything, including the plant, training of personnel, equipment and production processes meets the international standards stipulated by ISO 9000, the institution that at a world level establishes the norms for the production of biological products.
More than just vaccines
According to Dubon, Lavet focuses in developing biological products, better known as vaccines, to combat both virus (protein material with genetic information) as well as bacteria (unicellular micro-organisms whose components determine its characteristics), be it when they attack a milk production herd or a flock of hens. Nothing can be left un-cared for, she adds, so that even the work areas must be checked for contamination, and the workers follow strict security measures entering and leaving the production area. The persons that work in this laboratory do not only produce vaccines to prevent sicknesses; they also work to maintain their leadership in an area where competition is mostly in United States and Europe.
