My homepage |
Until I took a class in the use of the Internet, I had no idea that a resource such as a cemetery might be found on the Web. I found the idea absolutely fascinating (say: "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.") Looking into the subject, I noticed that no one seemed to specialize in internet cemeteries and other memorials. So, that is what this site tries to focus on.
I rapidly came to the conclusion that these on-line sources of comfort in times of grief are very important. There are so many of them and nearly every resouce I visited had had a hundred visitors and more! It makes sense, once one thinks about the fact that most of these sources are easily accessible and inexpensive. With my background (Army child) visiting an actual grave can get quite tricky. On the other hand, anyone can "step" into the World Wide Cemetery and place "flowers" at a grave. If the remembering makes us feel better, go for it.
The rapidity with which internet cemeteries and memorials have become popular is astounding. Most of the cemeteries are two years old or less, although there are support groups and obituary listings which have been present since the internet got going (some now defunct, some in different form). Take a look as you surf these waters, wether you came for a specific reason or not. The Web cemeteries, obituary and support pages are among the most beautiful and well made on the Web.
I would be enormously surprised to learn that I have managed to find and describe all of the cemeteries, obituary columns, support groups, and other related sources that are on the Web. If you see that I have missed any, would like yours added, or simply have something to say please contact me. Thank you for coming.
