Applications. UFM seeks the brightest and most motivated students. Admission requirements and application deadlines differ according to program. Applications should be submitted mid-year to the individual school or department. Student selection is the responsibility of the individual deans and department directors, often with the support of an academic advisory committee.
Requirements. The programs of law, economics, architecture, medicine and dentistry are the most competitive and have rigorous admissions procedures that include aptitude and other admissions exams, personal interviews and academic review. In most of these programs, over two-thirds of the applicants are rejected.
In other programs such as computer science and psychology, although aptitude exams are required, the admissions policy is more open. Programs offering intermediate degrees do not require aptitude exams and have an open admissions policy.
Aptitude and other admissions exams are administered at UFM in June and July.
Policy. The University is emphatic that its selection of students be based solely on academic criteria. No information on ability to pay, ethnic, religious or other affiliations is requested at any point in the admissions process. Students of all religions are represented, as are members of the Guatemalan Mayan ethnic community. Women generally comprise between 45 and 48% of the student body.
